Hello and hoping
My name is Jay D Schaeffer, I have had manageable back pain for 28 years till 2 years ago. Right leg just would not work. I think i had got used to pain. Anyway tried the epidural route and get temporary relief. Decided on minimally invasive decompression by Douglas Won of Zerospinepain.com. He broke part of one facet and i think damaged a nerve. I am worse from his surgery. I have tried every alternative for over a year. yoga, meditation, physical therapy, tons of meds. Maybe this is my life. My main pain is still sciatic more than back pain. I also tried some prolotherapy. If anyone has any thing they want to take to me please to.

You should get multiple opinions so you can get a diagnosis.

Jay,
Condolences; twenty eight years is a long time to have to manage pain. Just so we'll have some more information... At what level was your surgery? What was the procedure that was performed? What was the specific diagnosis that you termed a broken facet? Which could mean a lot of things. From the information that you've provided, I'm not certain that you've received a certain diagnosis. I think that Hooch has given you a very good place to start; that is, seeing multiple doctors to get multiple diagnosis and multiple treatment options. Hopefully they will all converge on the same or at least very similar diagnosis/treatment. Good luck, Jeff

Jay -
I agree with everyone else. You need a proper diagnosis, an new MRI at least, before making any conclusions. I see you live in Texas. I would highly suggest the Texas Back Institute, and to try to see Dr Zigler, Blumenthal or Guyer. TBI is one of the best in the country and they are truly top docs. I too had a minimally invasive procedure like yours, only mine was without laser. But both were endoscopic decompression's, and I ended up worse in the beginning. Eventually the leg pain went away after about a year. But back pain has persisted for the past 13 years so I can empathize with living for a long time with chronic pain. Jay, have you had recent imaging studies? Tell us more about the functional anatomy of your lumbar spine: which levels, the condition of your spinal discs, stenosis, if any...
If your facet is broken, that may limit your options (disqualify you from ADR) but make your decision process easier. For example, fusion may be the best route after all, but you need to get multiple opinions from different docs!
