Quick update.

I'm 2 days post op.

I made it to Santa Monica. I had emergency decompression at l4-l5. The herniation actually punchtured and infiltrated the dura, completely blocking spinal fluid flow.

This is apparently very rare. But they confirmed that all the debries were nnon cancerous. And proceeded to do an anterior fusion at l4-l5 because the damage compromised the stability, and a prodisc at L5-S1. I would have preferred an activL But my situation left me with no alternative as I had to go through the ER at Providence hospital instead of the planned surgical center.

I'm restricted to lying flat on my back fro 72 hours for the patch to the dura. All the radicular pain in in right leg is gone. The ties in my right foot are numb and sausagy, less strength than before surgery, but I believe increased sensation. Hopefully I'll be able to regain dorsal flexion in my right toes.

I have some low level constant low back pain, but it may be more about lying completely flat for days than surgical pain.

Incision pain on my belly, no incision pain on my back.

Highly recommend Dr Bae and his team. I don't know who else could have handled this dural breach.
