New organ identified?
Wow. What are the implications, if any, for those of us with anterior procedures?

The anterior approach typically does not enter the peritoneal cavity (where your abdominal organs are). They push the peritoneum out of the way to access your spine from the retroperitoneal space (behind the peritoneum). Therefore, the mesentery should not be affected by our procedures.
The mesentery has been there all along, now it's just classified as a distinct organ instead of part of the intestines.
