Hi everyone,
I have been suffering form high blood pressure for the last 2 months. I have never had high blood pressure before in my life. I was first put on diaretics (spelling??). They did not bring it down. Now I have been on beta-blockers for about 2 weeks and my blood pressure is still somewhat elevated. I am seeing a cardiologist on the 24th for some testing. I am also on pretty strong meds for my back pain that should drop my blood pressure. So the fact that it's high isnt very good. I was wondering if anyone else suffered from these kinds of symptoms due to pain. My feeling is that my body is dealing with so much pain that it's creating my blood pressure to go up. To tell you guys the truth, I feel like my whole body is falling apart and I'm only 32 years old. It would be just nice to know that I am NOT going crazy and these symptoms sometimes happen.

It sounds as if you're suffering from general stress and tension following your insurance company problems -- -- -- you need to get the BP thing resolve though

I learned a lot about BP during the last few years. For me, it was:
1. Physical and emotional stress elevated my BP quite a bit; pain has a complicated effect on it. 2. NSAIDs almost always elevate my BP, some noticably more than others. Ibuprofen jacks my systolic up 20 to 30 points! Your beta blocker may take a week or so to have a pronounced effect on lowering you BP, in case you just started...

I hope you're keeping a daily record of your blood pressure readings and I would call the doctor's office if you're concerned to let the doc know what is going on.
It sounds as tho you had a wham bam thank you Ma'am visit and your meds weren't explained to you nor your condition of elevated BP/hypertension. I agree that pain and stress elevate BP tho you may not be on the right combo of meds that will work for you so call the doc's office if you haven't already. The Beta Blockers will kick in and work for you tho not all people respond to them the same way~ there are alot of BP meds out there and different ones work a bit differently depending on what your identified medical situation or source of hypertension might be. Call the doc's office tomorrow if you're still concerned and do not feel like you are being a pain~ that is the job of a good doctor, to accurately define and treat the patient's symptoms and condition.. |

Thank you for the help. I do feel it wasent explained to me the reason for the meds, what is going on with my body etc. I did however call my physician and he has referred me to a cardiologist to have a work up done. So hopefully they will explain things a little bit more. Yes, I have been keeping a log of my blood pressure for when I do go to the new doctor. Thank you guys for once again being so supportive.
